I te tau 1992, ka tukuna te mana e te iwi ki Te Runanga Matauranga o Tuhoe (Tuhoe Matauranga Trust) hai whakatinana i nga whakatanga whakaaro o Ngai Tuhoe hai mahi rauemi hoki mo nga tamariki haua o Ngai Tuhoe.

Ko tetahi o nga kaupapa tuatahi ko te whakarite ratonga hai tautoko i nga tamariki haua me o ratau whanau .

E mahi ana te whanau o Te Kaokao o Takapau i te taha o nga tamariki i roto i o ratau kainga, i nga Kohanga Reo, i nga whare kohungahunga, i nga kura me nga hapori o te rohe.

In 1992, Ngai Tuhoe established Te Runanga Matauranga o Tuhoe and gave a mandate to their first trustees;  Professor Wharehuia Milroy, John Heremia, Hirini Melbourne, Te Waiarani Harawira and Te Ripowai Higgins, to lay down strategies toward achieving the following objectives. 

    To enhance the social and economic well-being of Ngai Tuhoe in a manner that promotes and preserves the integrity of Tuhoetanga.
    To optimise resources in the social and economic development of Tuhoe Whanui
    To design and implement effective health, welfare and education policies.
    To actively revive and sustain Te Reo Rangatira and Tuhoetanga
    To achieve redress for Treaty Of Waitangi claims
    To regain mana whenua

    Kaumätua social and recreational activities
    Health Promotion
    The Tuhoe Matauranga Trust Contractual Overview

      The Tuhoe Matauranga Trust has service contracts with the following:

      ¨ Ministry of Health
      ¨ Te Kohanga Reo National Trust

      A number of other smaller contracts with schools, kohanga reo, small organisations and families.
      One of the education initiatives set up was the Early Intervention Service for Maori children with disabilities
